OZ SQUAD: (Always Green)

Mother: Hurry along June. The parade is about to begin!

June: Mom, my favorite color is blue.

Mother: I know June.

June: Nothing is ever blue!

Mother: (more annoyed) I know June.

June: The decorations are green, the food is green…. MY UNDERWEAR IS GREEN!

Mother: Yes June… I know!

June: Why can’t we have a blue parade?

Mother: Because it’s Oz! We can’t have a parade of a different color!

June: It’s always the same…. What are we celebrating anyway?

SONG: DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD.

Once there was a wicked witch in the lovely land of OZ

And a wickeder, wickeder, wickeder witch that never, ever was

She filled the folks in Munchkin Land with terror and with dread

Till one fine day from Kansas A house fell on her head

And the coroner pronounced her, dead And through the town the joyous news went running

The joyous news that the wicked old witch was finally done in

Ding Dong, the witch is dead Which old witch?

Well, uh, the wicked witch ( Oh)

Ding Dong, the wicked witch is dead Oh yeah, happy day

Wake up you sleepy head. Rub your eyes. Get out of that bed

Wake up, the wicked old witch is dead

She’s gone where the goblins go below, below, below, yo ho

Let’s open up and sing. And ring those bells out. Sing the news out

Ding Dong, the merry, oh sing it high and sing it low

Let them know the wicked old witch is dead

Why everyone’s glad, she took such a crownin’?

Being hit by a house is even worse than drownin’

Let ’em know the wicked old witch is dead

(Junes mother is still dancing. She looks at June who is acting embarrassed.)

OZ SQUAD: (The Disguise)

Mother: That’s right. I’m like a wild tornado!

June: What does that mean?

Mother: I brought the house down!

(Junes looks more confused. Her mother regains her composure and then spots someone she knows.)

Mother: June stay here a moment. I just spotted Belza and I need to ask her something. (calling out) Belza…..

(Junes looks bored and an old cloaked woman approaches.)

June: Stupid Oz… I don’t care that the witch died. I still want blue stuff.

Old Woman: I’m with you little one. I too once wished things to be a …. De-greenified. But then I guess you just learn to appreciate the way things are.

June: I’d appreciate it more if things could change every once in a while. I wish that witch had never gone where the goblins go…. Wherever that is…..

Old Woman: Me too.

June: Since when do houses fall on people anyway?

Old Woman: Stranger things have happened.

June: Like what?

Old Woman: (giggling) I’d love to tell you.

SONG: One Short Day

Ozians: One Short Day In the Emerald City….

Old Woman: (spoken) A long long time ago…. there was a witch named Elphaba.

Ozians: One Short Day In the Emerald City….

Old Woman: (spoken) Who wanted so much… (like you) to be free of green.

Ozians & Old Woman:

One short day, In the Emerald City

One short day, in the Emerald City______

One short day, in the Emeral City

One Short Day, Full of so much to do,

Ev’ry way That you look in this city, There’s

something exquisite. You’ll want to visit

Before the day’s through!

Old Woman: She had skin so green and hair so

Black. What you should know before we go

Back

She was quite.. misunderstood,

All she wanted was to meet

The powerful wiz bow at his feet, To find that place.. were she belonged…

But what she found, Was so unforeseen

She went up on and to the wiz, She found out secrets that were his

Then banished she was forevermore….

Ozians & Glenda:

One short day, In the Emerald City

In One short day, Everything can go wrong

One Short Day, She was banned from the city

Why did we fear her? Didn’t want to be near her. Her magic too strong.

June: I don’t understand. The Wiz doesn’t have secrets… Who would banished her?

Old Woman: (spoken)The Wiz isn’t all he seems to be.

Ozians & Glenda:

Who’s the mage,  Whose MAJOR ITINERARY I IS MAKING ALL OZ MERRIER?

Who’s the sage, Who sagely sailed in to save Our Posteriors

Whose Enthuse for hot air ballooning

Has all of oz honeymooning Woo — oo— oo

Wizn’t he wonderful, Our Wonderful Wizard

(Ozians repeat while old woman sings descant with June)

Old Woman & June:

One short day, In the Emerald City In One short day, Everything can go wrong

Ozians, Old Woman & June:

One Short Day, She was banned from the city Why did we fear her?

June: They misunderstood her…

Old Woman: The secrets she found…

June: Couldn’t say…

Old Woman: Judged without trial…

June: Forced to exile

(Old woman slowly holds June’s hand.)

Ozians: And that was one wonderful… One Short…

June: But wait…. That can’t be the end? (old Woman leaves)

Ozians: DAY!

(All Ozians leave and June is left alone on stage.)

OZIANS: (Oz Crew)

(June spots her mother returning.)

June: Mother you will never guess what just happened… This old woman… she came to tell me a story. And there was this big dance number… Everyone knew the choreography… it was like… a musical or something! (shows a bit to her mother)

Then the old woman… she disappeared! She told me…

Mother: Wow June, sounds like so much fun! I told you Oz was a great city… now lets go. The Wizard is going to be out any second!

June: No mom! Listen, that old woman… she told me that the Wicked Witch. Elphaba…. She wasn’t really bad.

Mother: June! Whatever that woman told you is a lie. And I don’t ever want to hear you say that name again.

June: Then what really did happen mom?

Mother: She was evil. She had magic that was too powerful for a normal civilian. Oz

said she was dangerous.

June: Dangerous how?

Mother: June. We are not going to discuss this. The wizard said she was dangerous. That’s all we need to know.

June: Mother you are not listening to me (June stomps her foot and something magic happens. She stops caught off guard but her mother didn’t see).

Mother: Let’s go June. NOW!

(pulls June off stage)

(Old woman reappears on stage and removes her cloak to reveal that she is Elphaba.)

Scarecrow: (urgently whispering) Elphaba… what are you doing? Someone will see you!

Elphaba: Did you see that?

Lion: (entering) See what? (in fear)

Elphaba: That little girl. June.

Scarecrow: No. What about her.

Elphaba: She’s special.

Tin Man: I can’t keep up with you guys. I’m really rather a….rusted.

Lion: Arrested??? Oh no… not again

Tin Man: RUSted. I need oil.

Scarecrow: (hands tin man a bag) There is still some in there.

(Lion and Tin Man start working on oiling his limbs)

Scarecrow: Elphaba… did you hear we lost the slippers?

Elphaba: What?

Scarecrow: Glenda said he found them.

Elphaba: When is enough, enough? The Wizard has almost every magical object in all of Oz.

Scarecrow: In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter… As long as he doesn’t get the most important thing.

Elphaba: They’re all important.

Scarecrow: I meant you Elphaba.  (Scarecrow and Elphaba hug.)

Scarecrow: So keep this on okay? For me. (Scarecrow puts hood back on Elphaba).

Tin Man: Yeah Elphaba, you should really be more careful.

Lion: If Oz finds out you didn’t melt… AHH! He will capture us, curse us, shave my head, catch Scarecrow on fire…

Tin Man: Okay Lion… deep breaths.

Elphaba: Listen, that girl has something special. She may be…. Important.

Scarecrow: What do you mean Elphie?

SONG: The Wizard and I

Elphaba:

Did that really just happen? Has she actually understood?

This weird quirk she has,  To suppress or hide…

Is a talent? That could, Help defeat the wizard.

If I plan this well… I will plan this well…

I can teach her…All she needs to know

I can help her talents, Her magic will start to… to grow!

And with all his wizard “wisdom” By her power, he’ll be blinded…

For yes… the wizard is dumb! And like munchkins… so small minded!

This girl could be so important to Oz, To vanquish him once and for all

And that’s what we will do, The wizard will fall.

Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion:

Once she’s with the wizard…

All of Oz will change

Cause once she’s with the wizard

She’ll be in firing range.

Scarecrow:

No more stealing magic objects

No more planning his worldly reign

Elphaba:

He’ll stop punishing those I love

Finally give the scarecrow his brain…

And I see a vision

A happy ending to OZ

I feel it drawing nigh

When we are hand in hand

June and I

June: (walking home behind her mother)

I’m Limited

I wish I could be.. unlimited

Though something is happening

I don’t quite yet understand…

I think – I should just conceal it…

Try best not to feel it…

Cause I swear there’s somethings weird

With my….. AHHH!!

MUNCHKINS & EMERALDS: (Munchkin Land)

Mother: June what’s wrong?

June: (hiding hands behind her) Nothing!

Mother suspiciously keeps walking and we see June start putting on gloves as she walks.

June: Mom, why are we going to Munchkin land?

Mother: The Wizard has asked us to be more unified. So he is holding a party in munchkin land.

June: But the munchkins are so….

Mother: (whispering) Not another word.

(Munchkins line up) :

We represent the Lollipop guild

The Lollipop guild

The Lollipop guild June: (exasperated) Every… time.

And in the name of the Lollipop guild…..

We welcome you to munchkin land!

Munchkins continue:

Munchkin 1: May we attend?

Munchkin 3: May we?

MUNCHKINS & EMERALDS: (Meet the Wiz)

Wizard: Fellow Ozians, Munchkins, and creatures of many… Thank you for attending our munchkin land celebration! There is plenty of food, drink and music so have a wonderful time!

Mother: (applauding vigorously) He is so wonderful!

(We see the Wiz whispering to the Munchkins in the background. June passes by and overhears…)

Wiz: Those slippers must be here somewhere. Dorothy couldn’t have taken them home.

June Whispers: Dorothy?

Munchkin 5: Dorothy!

All Munchkins: DOROTHY!

June: No, no, no… I’m not…..

Munchkin 6: We thank you very sweetly

Munchkin 7: For doing it so neatly

Munchkin 8: You’ve killed her so completely

Munchkin 9: That we thank you very sweetly

(Munchkins begin circling June and the rest of the crowd joins in on the song)

Munchkins:

Ding-Dong the witch is dead!

Witch old with? The Wicked witch!

Ding – Dong the wicked witch is dead. June: Please stop. I’m not….

Munchkins & Crowd: Wake up you sleepy head

Rub your eyes get out of bed (we see June getting more and more

Wake up the wicked with is dead. upset)

She’s gone where the goblins go.

Below-Below-Be… (June cry out in outrage and the entire

stage freezes)

OZIANS:

June: Oh… oh no…. I’m sorry….

(June begins to cry and Glenda enters)

Glenda: What is your name little one?

June: I’m sorry… I got so angry…. I didn’t mean to…

Glenda: Of course not.. name?

June: June.

Glenda: June. You have a strong power. Did you know that already?

June: No… I just thought I had to be sick or something.

Glenda: You remind me of someone I knew a long time ago. But less green.

June: You knew Elphaba?

Glenda: Well…. yes… we are ….. WERE …. friends.

June: You said Are…. As in present tense?

Glenda: (looks June over) I actually think she would want to meet you.

June: Well what about all of them?

Glenda: Oh don’t you worry little one. You’ll be able to fix it all. Besides… you’re actually helped. More than you know.

June: Helped what?

Glenda: You’ll see. (casts a spell) My dear friend. We need you.

(Elphaba appears)

Elphaba: Glenda.. Its been so long (hugs Glenda)

Glenda: There will be time for that later. There is someone you should meet.

Elphaba: June!

(June backs a way a bit frightened)

Glenda: You know her?

June: You know me?

Old Woman: Judged without trial…

June: Forced to exile That was you?

Glenda: It’s true little one. This land is in grave danger. And you little one are just the one to save it.

June: Me? How?

Glenda: You see… The Wiz has been collecting

Elphaba: Stealing.

Glenda: Stealing and capturing all of the magical things of oz. Including…. (looks to Elphaba)

Elphaba: (getting emotional) I knew it…. What happened?

Glenda: Scarecrow had the slippers. They’ve all been taken prisoner.

Elphaba: Then we must go now!

Glenda: With your book and my wand you know he will see either of us coming.

June: He has your wand? Your book?

Elphaba: I wasn’t banished because of my power. I was banished because I wouldn’t help him. He wanted my power but he doesn’t realize its not the spells that give you power. Just as you’re learning.

June: (looking at her hand) I’m frightened of it.

Let It Go

(Elphaba kneels next to June and pulls off her gloves.)

Glenda:

Your power grows larger & stronger tonight

No need to be afraid

You can learn to control it

The Wiz will be dismayed

Elphaba:

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside

You can’t keep it in, heaven knows I’ve tried

Just let them in, just let them see

Be the good girl you always have to be

Glenda:

Don’t conceal, just let them know

What, we all know

Let it go, let it go

Can’t hold it back anymore

Elphaba:

Let it go, let it go

Turn away and slam the door

June:

I don’t care what this wiz might say

Let the storm rage on

Magic never bothered me anyway

All: It’s funny how some distance makes everything seem small. And the fears that once controlled me can’t get to me at all.

It’s time to see what I can do, to test the limits and break through. Not right no wrong no rules for me. I’m free

All:

Let it go, let it go, I am one with the wind and sky. Let it go, let it go you’ll never see me cry. Here I stand, and here I’ll stay: let the storm rage on.

June:

My power flurries through the air into the ground

I want to control this so it doesn’t spread around

Cause one spell crystalized them like an icy blast

Elphaba:

No need to be afraid, the past is in the past

All:

Let it go, let it go

And I’ll rise like the break of dawn

Let it go, let it go

That scared little girl is gone

Here I stand in the light of day

Let the storm rage on

Wiz didn’t stand a chance anyway.

Black out – We return to the Munchkin land party. Elphaba is again disguised as the old woman

Ozians: (Unfreeze)

Old Man: Remember June. Embrace it… don’t suppress it. It will flow naturally.

June lifts her arms and slowly lowers them. Everyone begins to unfreeze.

Mother: June.. what happened? Are you alright?

Wiz: Where did that come from? (All the munchkins point to June).

(mother tries to hide June behind her)

Wiz: Well hello little one… Did that magic come from you? (June nods.)

Old Woman: She has a great and mystical magic inside of her.

Wiz: (looks at the old woman suspiciously and looks back to June) What is your name?

June: June…

Wiz: June would you like to come back to OZ with me? You and your mother can join me as guests.

Mother: Oh that would be splantabulous! Wouldn’t it June? June looks to the Old Woman and she nods.

June: Yes. Thank you.

(Black out)

OZ SQUAD: (Power of June)

We return parading into Oz. We are in the Wiz’s office.

WIZ: With your permission Miss, I would love to speak with June privately. She is special beyond our wildest dreams and I would like to assess her new talents.

Mother: Of course your excellency. June I will be right outside.

Wiz: Now June… how long have you had this… magic?

June: I don’t know what you mean.

WIZ: Now now June.. This will go much easier if we be honest.

Munchkin 10 enters: Uh Mr. Wiz? Sir?

WIZ: Not now!

Munchkin 11: But boss… We found her!

Wiz: You found no one and you leave the room immediately.

Muchkin 1: We found no one and we will leave the room immediately.

Wiz: Now where were we?

June: Who did you find?

Wiz: Oh that was nothing. You wouldn’t believe it anyway.

June: I bet I would… I believe a lot of things other people wouldn’t. Like how you have been stealing magical objects to increase your power. That Elphaba was banished only because she wouldn’t help you reign that way.

Wiz: Where did you hear these things? (Opening a spell book)

June: From the same person you stole that book from.

Wiz: Lies!

Elphaba: Truth!

June: Elphaba! I was so worried! He has someone.

Elphaba: It’s Glenda.

(Wiz pulls out her wand and holds it to Elphaba)

Wiz: I should have known you were behind all of this. I should have known you’d show up after I captured that straw head.

Elphaba: Yeah. You should have. (elphaba goes to cast a spell and she is frozen by the Wiz)

Wiz: I learned that one from June.

June: Let her go.

Wiz: She hasn’t told you the whole story June. I need this power. I wasn’t born with it like you were.

June: You can’t steal magic and expect it to work for you.

Wiz: Oh I think I can… The question is… will you help me do it or not?

June: Not. (June casts a spell that unfreezes Elphaba)

Elphaba: (out of breath) Wiz, she may be small but she’s more powerful than you.

(turns to June) Let it Go.

(June raises her hands and lights change. Wiz seems to be bonded. _

June: Wiz… on behalf of all of OZ… you are hereby banished. You will take your hot air balloon and you will travel to the other side of the globe. Never to return. And may your wrongdoings be undone.

Elphaba: And I shall cast a spell onto the entrance of Oz….

(Scarecrow, The Mother, Glenda, Tin Man, Lion, and all of Oz begin to appear)

That it shall be guarded for the rest of eternity. That no hot air balloon (or tornados) will ever get past.

(June and Glenda stop casting and the Wiz has disappeared.)

Scarecrow: Is he really gone?

Glenda: Absolutely. June’s magic is new but very strong.

Scarecrow: Elphaba… You’re finally free! (removes her hood and they hug) (Elphaba walks to June)

Elphaba: Thank you little one. Outsiders will never be able to enter without good and noble intentions ever again.

SONG: For Good

Glenda:

I’ve heard it said, That people come into our lives for a reason
